As we all know, Nolani Academy is the gateway to Yak;s Bend, a place where Ascalonians must pass through to reach the Shiverpeaks. Unfortunately, it is hirrobly besieged by Charr who wish nothing more than to overrun the fortress and kill the defenders before sweeping across Ascalon in their fury.
Avalon MacCormac entered the Academy with 2 tanks (warrior monks) and a Necromancer Mesmer. Interestingly enough, the leader thought it enough for him to not hire a dedicated monk, so of course, Avalon had to do most of the healing.
His first action was to throw open the gates and welcome the combined might of the Charr forces beseiging Nolani. Avalon shook her head and waited up high, raining fiery death on as many of the legions as possible. The leader, boasting of the power of his Droknar's Armor, took on the foes single handedly, mostly because the other two party members died bloody deaths swiftly. Fortunately for Avalon, Charr are not very bright, and the kept swarming the boastful tank, allowing her to repeatedly fireball and Fire Storm their hordes (and she has a 9 in Fire Magic, so you know she's got power).
A few Charr broke away and shot at her, forcing her to go defensive: Lava Font, that restoration spell, healing breeze, it took all her energy, but she slew the 6 rogue charr before they could gut her as well.
Which was a good thing.
After raising her fallen allies (they won the direct fight, btw), they proceeded to do the bonus of the mission, where she finally was brought down by devourers, because nobody was guarding her as she held the book.
This is when she found out that out of 3 monk secondaries, NOBODY BROUGHT RESS EXCEPT HER.
Well, one down. As the rest of the players ran towards the graveyard, Avalon's player (aka, ME) trimmed and painted her toenails (baby blue if anyone cares).
Of course, the lack of foresight in not bringing a monk meant that by the end of the bonus the necromancer and boasting tank were dead, while the second, severely wounded, tank had to run back to Nolani to pick up Rurik. For any lesser man, this would be death, especially wehn the 3 teams of unkilled charr started sniping. But Rurik is a fighter, especially since his AI refused to leave until all the Charr were dead. Drawing attacks off the tank, he fought maybe 6 Charr by himself (since the second tank also apparently forgot to bring mending with him as well), while our valiant hero took a few hits and ran away.
Eventually they triumphed and ran to the cutscene, which of course ressed the party members, who were minus one since the necro decided to leave a hopeless mission. So now it became time to Save Rin, as the mission said. The three heroes charged, and two of them died (Mr. Droks needed a rezz himself, which is how Avalon got taken down).
Game over, right? No. The Drok's augmented tank fought off hordes of Charr by himself, eventually slaying Barfazz Burntfur (or something similar, I can't remember because while he was fighting I painted my fingernails the same color).
Somehow, we passed the mission. I still can't decide if it was luck or something similar, but we made it.
